Dear Commonwealth Pool Members,

Today I am pleased to announce the beginning of the Portable Defibrillator Machine Fundraising Campaign for Commonwealth Swim Club. The defibrillator, commonly called an AED, is a valuable lifesaving device that can save lives when minutes count. Last Sunday, a committee was formed and plans were made to raise $2,000 through direct donations and a special event. What event you ask? Mark your calendars now for Friday, July 22 from 6 to 9 pm. We will have a pot luck dinner, a live band, a Synchronized swimming team demonstration, and an auction.

If you are interested in donating to the campaign, Stuart Steen and the life guards have set up a container at the pool for you to drop your money or check into. The money will be collected each night. At the guard desk you will see the poster showing the running total of funds collected.

For the auction, we have several committee members asking people and businesses for support but we need more help. Many of you have hidden talents that can be auctioned (photography, computer skills, lawn mowing, home decorating consulting, etc.) Already, someone has donated a beautiful hand-made red, white and blue twin quilt for the auction. You too can participate! If home decorating is your niche, offer up an afternoon to consultation. Do you own a lawn service and would be willing to donate a yard service? Are you a consultant for a home business? These are just a few examples possibilities. You can make an auction item on your own or several families can work together on one item. Remember to be creative and sell your item, presentation goes a long way.

If you need help with auction ideas, would like to participate on the committee or If you or a group of you are willing donate an auction item please contact Rhonda Paulk, at Rdpaulk@gmail.com, in subject line: BASKET AUCTION, and let me know what you’re donating. For all other questions, feel free to contact Stuart or myself. His email is sms5bd@virginia.edu.

We look forward to seeing each of you Friday, 22 July, 6 p.m. and support the Commonwealth Swim Club in this worthy cause to raise funds for the portable defibrillator. It’s because of members like you that we have a family neighborhood pool for all to enjoy!
